Trying to make a silk purse from a sow's ear

I belong to a great group where it has been decided that we will have a challenge every month on some sort of Art skill. This month was balance.... I failed BUT, I decided to use it to practice my sorely lacking skills in quilting and I wanted to try my hand at fabric painting. I got as far as the quilting part. I also have an aversion to blue so I decided to work in blue-green.... as close to blue's as I have. I have hated this piece from the beginning and it will probably end up in the round file.
My drawing skills are on par with my quilting skills so all of this was done free hand. Next step is to paint.

Feel free to throw darts at it.

I absolutely love it! I thought your layout in the beginning was nice and safe. I was curious to see what you would finally do with it since you hated it so much. I think your treatment was fabulous! I think the edging should be pillowcase or knife edge so as not to detract from the beauty of the piece. Very successful!
Congrats!

It needs some shocking red or yellow on it as a contrast to the aqua and turquoise colors, a very small bit like a bead or some bullion knots, like in the center of your flowers, otherwise it's quite lovely!

Quite interesting. The shapes almost look like people. I won't throw dart, though.

The piece is beautiful!!! Of course, purples, teals, blues, are my favorites. Several years ago, I heard this suggestion as to what to do with pieces we don't like. Get them to a point where they at least appear finished. Show it to someone you don't like very much...if they like it, give it to them as a gift!!! It messes with their mind........

I think you're too hard on yourself. I think this will be striking with some transparent paint added to the flowers which -- by the way -- are really good. Work through this; if for no other reason than practice and learning what you don't like to do. And I agree; this would be a lovely gift for someone who does like blue or donate tit o a charity.

Sherryl I love what you are into now. You really are doing wonderful pieces. I especially like the black and white piece. The demention and surface look amazing.

Post the painted version so everyone can see the pretty flowers - I think you're passing, because the paint has balanced it.

Sherryl - I stumbled across your site ( don't even know how) and I am sooooo glad I did. What a unique approach you have to art quilts. I to like to experiment in this way -- and your work is very inspiring. Love what you did with the paints in these with the outline quilting, but my particular favorite is down a bit on your blog - the pink and purple ocean scene with the sailboat - I MUST try this -- very appealing.
I've linked to you so I can visit often.
