After letting the fabric batch for about 6 hours, I rinsed it in cold water to get the soda ash out. Then I washed it in several warm water baths and a hot water bath (140 degrees). I tossed it into the dryer and ironed it.
Here is the result.. not bad.
Might make a good background for a small piece or I will just cut it up.
I would say this is a success.

I'm surprised that the red bleached out so well. it looks great and I would say it's a success too. I'll be using a bleach pen on my ugly fabric as well, although I really like the fabric the way it is.
Looks very lovely. I saw your post on the MX list. I have been so focused on the "big" techniques of DSP or fold and clamp with resist that sometimes I forget how beautiful the simple treatments can be. You are right about the fabric being "not so ugly." Mine is a lovely intense brown. You have inspired me to remember that I can work small on my bad pain days too. Thanks. Johanna in WI.
