In the midst of joy, there is sadness

Sammy: June 14, 1993 - November 27, 2010

As many of you know, Sammy, my Tonkinese kitty has been in failing health. He was diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure. He managed to rally once last March, but it seems he did not have another life tucked in there. We had to put him down this morning. He had stopped eating several days ago, and had developed several other problems. It was time. He wasn't really well when we left for India and I think he was just waiting for us to return to say goodbye. He was the most loving cat I have ever known. He was a friend and companion to me for 17 years and helped to get me through some really rough times. I will miss him terribly. Needless to say, I have been a mess of tears all day.

so sorry to hear about your Sammy. i lost my Pica and Elite many years ago when they were both 18 years old. it still brings tears to my eyes. they were the best companions i ever had. your Sammy lived a long life with a caring family. you are in my thoughts.

Sherryl,
my sympathies on the loss of your kitty. I lost 14 YO Benny this fall to CRS also. We are still finding his toys behind furniture, and it was tough to roast a turkey without him moaning in ecstasy in front of the oven. My thoughts are with you ...

I'm so sad for your loss. I hope all your wonderful memories with Sammy will help you through this time.

My heart goes out to you...as your heart reached out to me when you read of my Brighton. My therapist has a way of talking about grief that is very comforting to me (I also lost my husband unexpectedly in 2007).

She said grief is softened with time, but one never really 'gets over it' but to let it wash over you like a wave, but not knock you down.

She said at first it is like a sharp shard of glass, able to cut you and cause pain. With time, it is more like sandwashed glass, with the edges not sharp and not able to cut you in that form...

Thank you again for your support of Brighton's Yule Tide Auction and your donation to help cover his emergency care...your thoughtfulness means the world to me...
