Geisha's

This is the year I have decided to buckle down and do more than just piddle. I want to work on my techniques and get more serious about my art.  This piece, The Path Not Taken, is the first of I hope several larger (for me) pieces that I hope to complete this year. It is 42" x 45". I would like to be able to enter some shows, other than local ones, so I need to focus more on actually working on my art. I am happy with the way this one came out, including my stitching. The majority of fabrics in this quilt are my own hand dyed and Shibori pieces. There are 3 small pieces of commercial fabric and one small piece of silk from Jane Steinberg. I have done some hand embroidery on here as well as machine stitching. I think I threw everything at this! It is appliqued with trapunto,  and stenciled using paint and paint stiks. The piece has a story but I will save that for another time. I have screwed up my courage and have entered this into 2 shows. I could use some luck.

Very beautiful - love the flow coming off the fingertips of their hands - they set off the entire piece.

Sherryl, I am not usually a fan of the "japonesque," but I love this! The lines are elegant and the whole piece has such an air of delicacy. Great use of the shibori.

Amazing Sherryl! Or like we say down here (in Argentina) fabulosa! Loved the composition, loved the gentle movement. Would love to hear its story. I am not sure you need a lot of luck, you've shown a lot of talent :)

Congrats, Victoria

Hi Sherryl. This is a successful piece. The overall composition is well balanced, and the various shapes are beautiful. You show your design skills in this piece. I like the shapes of the kimono parts, the hair, the umbrellas and fans, and the path. Well done.

This is really wonderful! I see all your shibori pieces in it. Good luck with your show entry - I have a feeling you won't need luck to get in though.

Hi Sherryl - Your piece is so beautiful. The composition is so pleasing with the simple shapes. It has a lovely spare feeling that I associate with things Japanese. It would be a nice addition to any show.

Beautiful quilt and I wish you the best of luck in both of the shows.

Great use of your fabric Sherryl. Your eye is not drawn to it as a dyed piece of fabric, but it is an intergral part of the design.
My best to you in the shows.
